Launceston Crime Rate

Ms Finlay, question to Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Mrs Petrusma:

The escalating problem with crime in and around Launceston is well known. Total crime is more than 30 per cent higher in the North than in the South. Of particular concern is the number of shootings that have occurred in recent years. Crimes against property, often targeting small business owners, are nearly 40 per cent higher in the North than in the South.

Nearly four years ago, your Government said it was launching a war on ice, yet the latest crime statistics show the number of serious methamphetamine offences in Launceston has nearly doubled in the past year.  It is clear that vandalism, gun crime and methamphetamine use is out of control in Launceston, and the measures that you have taken to date are not working.

What are you going to do for the people of Launceston who have lost all confidence in you and your Government, and worry that you cannot keep them safe?
